One of the most important sounds for the show was the piano. There was a shell of a piano on stage that had a speaker placed in it so that the sound of the piano could be localized on stage. The piano was prerecorded (played by Eli's mother, Susan Peach). It was also important that the sound had a feminine feel to it. With that in mind, music that had curvature to it as the curvature that is associated with femininity could be mimicked in all aspects of the show. Drawn to the parallels of deep space and the deep sea, the sounds of the sea was used to mimic the sounds of space.
